Programs & Events for Kids


The Rolling Meadows Library offers its patrons year-round entertainment with various programs and events. No matter what your interests are, we are sure you will find something that educates, informs, enriches, inspires, and entertains you!

Persons with disabilities can arrange for special assistance by calling the library at least two weeks prior to any program.

READ!
The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless.
Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler.
The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes, you can repeat books) before your precious one start kindergarten.

At Home Craft Activities - Fridays
ONLINE & PICK-UP @RML

Fridays, March 4th - May 27th

Life just wouldn't be the same without Drop in Crafts.
We will have take-home packets available at the Ask Me Desk.
Instructions to complete the craft will be available on our website.
Look for a new craft every week!
All can be made with simple things found at home, or come to the library and pick up a packet from the Ask Me Desk.

No registration needed.

Beyond the Book

Grades: 2-8
Come to the library!
We'll have displays of some of our favorite books along with ideas for digging even deeper into your reading to get more out of the books you choose.

The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Little Miss Muffit, and Little Jack Horner miss you!

Check out our YouTube Channel and enjoy a nursery rhyme with a hands-on activity to go along with it.
You can do it at home or pick up a package from the library.

StoryWalk®

Ages: All

Don't miss the latest StoryWalk® Come Home Already! by Jory John and Benji Davies.

The story begins on the path behind the RM Community Center and continues through North Salk Park.

We have something for every age!
Curl up with a good book, new movie or your favorite music.
Need help finding something?
Just ask a staff member, we are here to assist you!
We plan to change the stories with the seasons, so look for a new StoryWalk® story every few months.

 


Storytime To Go
ONLINE & PICK-UP @RML

Ages: Babies - Grade 2
New releases on the first day of each month:
March 1st, April 1st and May 1st

When we can't have in person storytimes here's the next best thing.
We've selected some of the best stories read online.
Each one will include several stories for the youngest listeners and some to catch older listeners' attention.
We will often offer a song and a craft activity.
All will be available online, or we've packaged them up for you to pick up in person "TO GO."
A new Storytime To Go will be released on the first day of each month.
Available in English and Spanish.

Registration Required Activities for Children

Celebrate Dr. Seuss at Home! PICK-UP KIT @RML

Registration begins March 1st
Pick-up: March 1st - 31st

Grades: PreK-5

Reserve a Dr. Seuss Celebration Kit to take home.
Kits can be reserved online, by calling 847-259-6050 x140, or in-person at the Ask Me Desk.

Kits are designed for the young (Grades PreK-5), or the young at heart.
They will include Seuss crafts, activities and a small surprise.
Be sure to reserve your kit and pick it up during regular library hours in the month of March.
Don't miss out - supplies are limited. Let the fun begin!

Hunger Games To Go PICK-UP KIT @RML

Re-visit the excitement of the Hunger Games series with activities featuring your favorite characters from Panem.

Sow, Grow, & Learn TAKE-HOME KIT

Registration: April 1st - 23rd

Pick-up your kit: May 14th - 23rd

Learn about growing a container garden by taking home a make-your-own kit of colorful scrumptiousness!
Staggered growing times means months of joy, with pretty flowers and vegetables you can eat and leafy greens and herbs to cut and come again.
Care instructions, bibliography, and resource lists included.
You must provide your own potting mix.
To reserve a kit, sign-up online, stop by the Welcome Desk on the library's main floor or call 847 259-6050.

Visit the Library and Check Out a Museum!

Ages: Children of all ages
When: Ongoing

The Rolling Meadows Library is a participant in the Macy's Museum Adventure Pass program.
Rolling Meadows Library cardholders will be able to check out passes to participating museums and cultural organizations throughout the Chicago Metropolitan area. Passes will be valid for a full seven days from checkout. There will be four (4) passes available per museum per week.

Specifics on entry vary by museum/cultural organization, and this information will be prominently listed on the passes - e.g. 4 people, 2 people, by car (Botanical Garden); if admission/parking is free, or it could be an incentive such as a free audio tour (Oriental Institute).
